Notes for G
IDEON BEARDSLEY:
His son Rev. I.H. Beardsley writes in his Genealogy of the Beardsley Family:
"One incident illustrates of the character of my father, took place in the fall of 1839, when I was a lad of eight years of age, and I accompanied my father on a call on the minister. An hour or so passed, and we were cordially invited to participate in their evening meal. Father politely declined, His eyes moistened when the devout minister and his little family sat down to their frugal meal of baked potatoes and salt, and invoked Divine blessing. After the tallow candles had ceased t bur in the parsonage, which was just across the street a short, heavy set, man might be seen marching toward the "Dominie's" carrying a heavy load of provisions, with an eight year old boy trudging along by his side, equally well loaded. At the parsonage, the pantry window was gently lifted, the sacks were carefully and noiselessly place inside, the window closed.
The following morning, as we were sitting down to breakfast, the minister came hurriedly in, and after a pleasant "Good Morning" picked up the family bible, read a chapter then knelt and offered a most fervent prayer. Without another word, he replaced the book and returned home. Source: Nellie Beardsley Holt's BEARDSLEY GENEALOGY, page 284.
