Notes for REED DEWAYNE BEARDSLEY: As a young man, he was industrious, and taught school at the age of seventeen; this combined with other available work, enabled him to continue his studies. In seven years, he graduated from Alleghany College, with all his bills paid, excepting $150, borrowed from a bank, and this he soon paid. He graduated in June, went to Chicago and worked for the Chutauqua Publishing Company, and also married, that year. He later spent 38 years working for oil and gas companies, the lst thirty-seven years were for the Standard Oil of New Jersey, from which he retired June 30, 1934. Paroled at Aikens Landing, Virginia February 24, 1865. Reported at Camp ____, Virginia February 28, 1865 and then to Camp Chase, Ohio same day. Reported there March 4,5, 1865. Furloughed March 6, 1865 for 30 days. Returned April 10, 1865 and sent to Chief M. O., Columbus, Ohio April 21, 1865. His name does not appear on the records of Andersonville, GA or Danville, VA on file. No evidence of disabilitation on said records. Company morning report August 25, 1863 shows him returned to duty from hospital, Murfreesboro, TN. Couse of absence in Hospital April 28, 1863 and nature of sickness not stated.
