This indenture made this 23rd day of September in year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Eight, between Nathaniel Fields of the County of Rockingham & State of North Carolina.
Acting by special authority given him by a deed of trust given by Nehemiah Vernon, Esq. deceased to Robert Galloway of the one part and JOHN JOYCE of the county & state aforesaid of the other part. Witness that the said Nathaniel Fields for and in consideration of the sum of Eight Hundred & four dollars to him in hand paid by the said JOHN JOYCE before the sealing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained & sold and by these presents do give grant bargain & sell unto the said JOHN JOYCE his heirs and assigns forever a certain parcel or tract of land situated being & lying in the county of Rockingham and state of North Carolina and on the waters of the Double Creek of the Mayo River & bounded as follows (to wit).
Beginning at a black oak, THOMAS JOYCE corner, formerly Isaac Vernon line , running East croping of Double Creek two hundred & forty five poles to a white oak, thence North croping three branches three hundred & sixteen poles to a black oak thence West two hundred and forty five poles to a black oak thence south three hundred & sixteen poles to the first station containing by survey , four hundred and seventy acres more or less, with all the appertainances to have and to hold to the said JOHN JOYCE , his heirs and assigns forever and the said Nathaniel Fields by the power in him vested as aforesaid doth hereby warrant & forever defend said land and premises against himself or other person whatsoever as witness my hand & seal the day and year above written.
