He and his family resided in Denton's Valley which was in both Washington
CO, VA and Sullivan CO, TN. In 1826 he purchased 70 acres of land from
William and Rebecca White, part of it being in VA and part in TN. In 1827
he purchased a certain tract or parcel of land in Washington CO, VA on
both sides of Cove Spring Branch, containing 54 acres. His father willed
sons James and William the farm and a 50 acre survey lying south of the
home farm to be jointly divided between them. James was to have the east
end.
