Includes NotesNotes for Wilhelmina Turner Beattie:
The spelling of Wilhelmina is different in different documents. Her daughter, Dot, remembers the spelling as Wilhelmina. This is the way it was recorded on the ship's passenger list, her certifcate of marriage, and the 1920 census, on David's Petition for Naturalization her name is recorded as Williamina.

Wilhelmina told her children that her birth date on her brith certificate is off by one day. The reason for this is that the doctor failed to report the birth in the proper time, the story goes that the doctor change the birth date so it would not be filed late.

She arrived in America on 8 Feb 1912 on the S. S. Ionian (Allan Line). The ship sailed from Glasgow on 24 Jan 1912. She listed her occupation as a shop assistant on the passenger log. Her last address in Scotland was 4 Warrick Street, Glasgow. According to the log, this was was her uncle's address. His name was McKay. (Information from T843, Roll 173, at the Waltham Branch of the National Archives.)

In the 1891 census for Glasgow there is a Warwich Street. At 6 Warwich Street there was a Donald McKay (age 46) and his wife, Anna (age 47) and one son, Daniel (age 17). Donald was a Cooper and Daniel was Lithographier Printers Apprentice.

She got married the same day she arrived in America

Wilhelmia had a relative in America when she arrived. On the passenger list it states that brother lives at 299 Church Street, Marlboro, Mass. (Note: this should be Marlborough, MA) Over written in next to this place on the log is the entry "David Kann 5 Brown St Waltham.
