* Allen/Glassman/Jaffe/Kaplan/Splaver Family Forest*

Updated August 9, 2007

The "Additional Family Information" Lelated link has more details on the ALLEN and JAFFE lines. I am actively researching the following surnames:
ALLEN/ELLEN/ENTIS/ENTES, BALLOS (Ontario, Canada), BERGER, CHERNIKOFF, DEVORE/DEVOR, GLASSMAN (Nowe Aleksandrowo/Nowo Aleksandrowo), GURMERMAN, JAFFE (Svenciany), LANDE/LANDER/LANDY (Anyksciai->England->US), LEVITT (Riga, Latvia->Cleveland,Ohio), KAPLAN (Sinack, Russia->Cleveland,Ohio), OVSEY (Ontario, Canada), SCHNIEDER/SCHNAIDER (Anyksciai, Vilkomir, Kovno), SHAINBAUM (Ontario, Canada), SPLAVER/SPLAVA/SCHPLAVER/ SPLAWER/SHPLAVER (Anyksciai), WOLINKSI/Y, YELSKY (Kobrin, Slonim, Grodno), BERKOWITZ, GLAZER, GLAZIER, HALPERIN, HIRSH, MONTAGUE, RECHT, RABB, and ROTHMAN.

The SPLAVER and KAPLAN lines come from Lithuania/Russia via Canada (Kitchner and Quebec). Some SPLAVERs and SCHNEIDERs remained in Canada. The Meyer Wolf Splaver branch immigrated to the U.S. through England, then Canada. Descendents live in Arizona, Ohio, California, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Florida, Israel, even Holland! There is a line of Splavers that changed their name to Landy and have branched throughout the US, England, and Australia. I have also made a tentative connection with the Levy (name change from Splaver) family of St. Louis, Missouri, U.S. Splaver appears to be a unique surname; if you are related to a Splaver, please contact me.
I am trying to connect my lines to the following people:
Izrail Splaver (son of Kalman) and Estra had sons Meyer (married Rochla) and Rubin (married Meriam). There was also a son Chaim Abram who died in 1854 at the age of 9.

KAPLAN:
The Kaplan line begins with Isadore KAPLAN (1872-1955) of Sinack,Russia who married Eva YELSKY/CHERNIKOFF (1873-1962) of Kobrin, Russia. The Kaplans settled in Cleveland, Ohio

JAFFE:
Schloma Splaver of Cleveland, Ohio changed his name to Solomon A. Jaffe. He took on the name of his wife, Bayla Hinda Jaffe/Yaffe (daughter of Yehuda Mendel Jaffe) of Svenciany. Bayla Hinda may have relatives that remained in Canada.

ALLEN/ELLEN/ENTIS/ENTES/YENTIN/ELLENTUCH:
The original Allens came from three brothers in Smorgon, Oshminay/Vilnius/Lithuania; Yjedke/Vyedke; and Poland. I am trying to find a connection with the following people:
Itsko Shlioma ENTES and wife Brayna (daughter of Abraham) who were recorded with cousins Itsko Shlioma Entes (son of Srol) and his wife, Fruma, and children Izrael Iosel and Chaya Sora. The marriage of Itska-Shlema Entes, son of Movsha, resident of Smorgon, was recorded by Rabbi Khanelis (Khaneles) in Minsk, 1912. The marriage was witnessed by David Stuborin.

GLASSMAN:
The patriarch of the GLASSMAN family is Michael Glassman who married Richael GURMERMAN. They had a son named Harry Glassman who was born in Nowe Aleksandrowo/Nowo Aleksandrowo Poland. Harry eventually ended up in New York. Harry had an uncle in New York who had a daughter (Belle Finklestein) and two sons (Sol and Sidney).

SCHNEIDER:
The Schneider line begins with Shepshel SHNAIDER. There were two sons living in Anyksciai (town), Vilkomir (district), Kovno (gubernia). Israel-Khaim SHNAIDER was married to Musha, daughter of Eliash in 1897 and had four daughters: Sora-Dvora, Leia, Sheina, and Khana. The younger brother, Eliash-Girsh was married to Rivka, daughter of Girsh. In 1897 they were listed with son Shepshel and daughters Sora-Dvora, Khaia-Leia, and Gena. Sora-Dvora, daughter of Israel-Khaim, married Chana Zalman SCHPLAVER and immigrated with her sisters Leia BALLOS and Shayna OSVEY to Canada. Ada OVSEY married Hyman SHAINBAUM. The Splavers then immigrated to Ohio because Chana Zalman's brother was living there.

LEVITT/WOLINSKI:
I am trying to find information on an Esther Wolinski (abt 1830-?) who immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio from Riga about 1891. Her daughter, Sarah, married Joseph LEVITT. Their children where Anna, Lillian, Nathan, Michael, Sophia, Isadore, Mollie, Israel.
