Harris H. Miller was probably the first East European Jew who settled in Charlotte in 1895. Harris came to Charlotte with his family including his sons Abe, Hyman, and Henry Jr. and his daughter Bessie. Henry Jr. was born in Liverpool, England November 11, 1883. Harris Miller was born in Germany Jan. 1863 and was 20 years old when he settled in Charlotte. We don't know much about our great grandmother Etta Stein Miller only that she was from Germany and was 21 when they came to the United States.

Harris was a merchant and tailor when he settled in Charlotte.

Harris had a younger brother Nathan Miller, born in 1871 settled in Chicago, IL. who died in 1959. Nathan had 7 children, Henry, Ray, Hannah, Fannie, Lee, Sam and Joe.
