The Solniks of Staszow, Poland

Updated March 4, 2009

***
Welcome to the Solnik family homepage. The information presented here has been collected by Gaby (Solnik) Kave since the early 1980s. Data refer to a branch of the family that survived the holocaust and lives mostly in Israel. This family got its name either from the town of Salonicki, Greece to which certain Jews fled after they were deported from Spain or from the profession of one of its ancestors who sold salt (the name Solnik means salt-man in Polish).

The earliest relative that we have records of was called Clonimus Solnik. He had four sons (Meir, Yakul, Shimon, David) and a daughter (Bella). The family tree that follows has information primarily on the descendants of Meir, though we are in touch with descendants of the other siblings who left the town of Stashuv, Poland and settled in various parts of the world with a large branch in Toronto, Canada.

Meir Solnik died in Staszow in 1934 and his son Moshe-Lieb left Poland in 1935, following his older children who had already settled in Israel. Most of Moshe-Leib’s siblings and their families were killed by the Nazis and detailed information on these families was not available to us.

Below you will find names, dates of birth, dates of death, marriage dates, places of birth, death and marriage and pictures of a couple of hundreds of people who belong to this large Solnik family. We are interested in finding more information about early generations of our family. If you have any relevant information that you believe should be added to this website, please contact Einav Kave at einavk@netvision.net.il.

This page is dedicated to the memory of my mother, Gaby Kave (Solnik). Gaby passed away in June, 2003. Her family was her passion.
