Notes for JOHN BOUTON I:
The idea that John Bouton was born in France and was the son of Count Nicholas of France has been discounted by most Bouton researchers. There was a tendency to find royal connections, popular in the 1880s when James Boughton wrote his book, "The Bouton-Boughton Family." Often, when real royal connections could not be found, one was constructed.
