We are researching the following surnames in my husband's family tree: KAYE, PETERSON, SCHMUCK, EDWARDS, EDMONDSON, ATKINSON, OATES, WORTHINGTON. On the maternal side: Jochim SCHMUCK (b. 1860 in Germany) married Anna Katarina HOLM (b. 1861 in Germany). One of their daughters, Minna Johanna Augusta SCHMUCK (b. 1901, IL; d. 1978, FL), married John Albert PETERSON, Jr. They had two children, Evelyn Irene (b. 1924, IL; d. 1980, FL) and Edward Allen (b. 1928; d. 1988 in FL). John Albert PETERSON, Jr., was born in IL, 1901; he died 1960, in IL. His parents were John Albert PETERSON Sr. (b. 1878, IL) and Golda Geraldine CLEVER (b. 1881, OH). John Albert Sr. and Golda had four other children: Blanche, Mildred, Roy O. and Walter G. Evelyn Irene PETERSON married Frank KAYE in 1950 in Florida. They had five children (one died at birth), of whom my husband Frank is the eldest. *********************** On the paternal side: We can now trace the KAYE line back to one Richard KAYE, born August 31, 1793, at Birkhouse, Dalton, near Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. His wife's name was Sarah Worthington. Richard and Sarah had nine children: Jesse Ingham (born 1818); Sarah Ann (1820); William Worthington (1822); Elizabeth (1824); Emma (b.1826-d.1827); Richard Henry (1827); Mary (1830); Eliza Emeline (1833); and Ellen Walter (1835). William Worthington KAYE married Sarah Oates (1820-1893) at the Parish Church of Leeds, Yorkshire, England, in 1844. They had six children: Henry E. (1846), Emma (1848) and Sarah (1850 -- all born in England); William Henry (1854); Elizabeth Atkinson (1857); and Edna Ellen (1859; these three born in Philadelphia). William Worthington KAYE died the morning of June 3, 1864, during the Battle of Cold Harbor, VA. His US Army pension records show that he was left to die on the battlefield, and is probably one of the thousands of soldiers buried there in mass graves. William Henry KAYE was only 9 years old when his father died in the Civil War. He later traveled to Yorkshire, England, and married Fannie EDMONDSON (b. 1859) there in 1876. They came to the US within a year; their first child, Harry Edmondson KAYE, was born in Philadelphia in 1877. There were 7 other children in this family, of whom the sixth (Edward) was my husband's grandfather. William Henry and Fannie KAYE eventually settled in Woodbury, NJ. Fannie died in 1927 (location unknown to us); William Henry died in 1931, in Woodbury. Their son Edward KAYE married Elizabeth EDWARDS in Camden, NJ, 1908. There were 6 children in this family, all born in NJ: Mary Etta, Edward Jr., Thomas, twins Richard and John, and Frank (my husband's father). Frank married Evelyn Irene PETERSON (see maternal side, above), which brings us full circle! If you can help us with additional details about any of these folks, please contact us by e-mail. Thanks!
