| The Kear family is of Scottish and English descent with John Cears KEAR marrying Mary REED on 31 July 1798 in Anne Arundel Co., MD. The license gave his name as John KER. He moved to Ohio where he died in November 1820 in Licking County. My great grandfather, Thomas Reed KEAR, moved to Champaign County, Ohio, where he married Catherine Frysinger. They then moved to Willshire Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, and removed to Van Wert. He was a millwright, a towncrier and county sheriff, having the honor (?) of hanging the only person executed in the county. He also was Aide-de-Camp to the Ohio Governor in the Mexican War. |
