William was the first Keeter immigrant to North America.Born in England he was in Surry County, VA, by 1663 and was transported by wealthy businessman Arthur Allen.Allen received land in return for bringing people to the Virginia Colony.William was one of his servants.About November of 1663 Dorothy Baker, another servant of Allen, became pregnant by William.A son,William Kitto, Jr., was born about July, 1664.Dorothy and William married soon after.In Sep 1677 both William and Dorothy gave depositions in court regarding an investigation into the death of Susannah Jones, widow.William and Dorothy said that Susannah was at their home and told them she and her child, Alice, would have to go live with Henry Baker in order to survive.Apparently Susannah was quite ill.It is unknown what Henry Baker's relationship to Dorothy Baker was.On 1 May 1677 Henry Baker was in court as the administrator of Susannah Jone's estate.He presented William Kitto and William Newsom as securities.On 3 July 1677 William served on a jury.Williamunknowingly became involved in "Bacon's Rebellion" that same year.He transported some of Bacon's men across the river in his small boat, but did not know their intentions.Francis Bacon tried to overthrow the government of Virginia but was unsuccessful.. He claimed the government did not give enough protection to citizens from marauding Indians. Dorothy died by 1680.In 1681 Roger Rawlins sued William for debts owed.He was able to attach William's estate.William was ordered to appear in court, did not show and was arrested.He did appear after that. William shows in Surry County tax lists and other court records through 1691.
