I have been chasing this family history for several years and I must say, they're slippery. Like holding fog in your hand....one minute you think you have the correct branch and the next, you find you've been climbing the wrong tree.
I have documented proof of my great grandfather ( James Nathaniel Keele) on down to me but beyond him, I've had to rely on the internet with all it's confusion. I have some church records on James A. Keele but was he really an ancestor? I can't say for sure yet. Some say he was from Tennessee, in which case, he might be an ancestor and some say he was from Kentucky and that could possibly eliminate him. I believe his daughter (Susannah) married her first cousin ( Richard C. Keele), my gr-great grandfather but that's only intuition and not proof. The family tree is starting to look more and more like a flagpole.
Most ancestors in this family have been associated with the Baptist church and many were clergy...preachers, ministers and pastors. Some were founders of churches that are still in existence today, some churches still in their original locations and some having been moved nearby to more permanent settings.
If you are searching for the Keele family, please contact me and let's compare notes and documents.
