| ATTENTION FAMILY MEMBERS, READ THIS FIRST AND IF YOU'RE OF THE LEVEL LINE READ THE NOTE IN THAT SECTION BELOW REGARDING CORRECTIONS TO WM. J. LEVEL INFORMATION: When I was merging my files in order to include everyone, some people became doubled and in some cases tripled for some reason. I tried to correct the problem but was unable to at this time. Just use the index and you'll be fine. You'll see that some of the duplicates have more info than others and some include pictures and some don't. I started on my family's genealogical journey when I found a book of my Grandmother Margaret Level's. In this book she had written who her parents were and where they were born. She was starting to get ill at this time and was becoming forgetful. I think that she was worried that she'd forget who they were, so she wrote it down. So I began researching our family history about 13 years ago. The main surnames for my Paternal side are LEVEL, SCHUEPFER, BECK, CRUMP, HOUSE, HOPSON, SHANNON, SHELLEY, ETC. Needless to say there are many more that are included. The main surnames for my Maternal side are NOACK, SCHRAER, HESSE, JOHNSTON, LUCAS, GRAHAM, HELDEBRAND (with its various spellings), ETC. LEVEL - (ATTENTION: THERE IS A CORRECTION TO THE INFORMATION ABOUT WM. J. LEVEL. I THOUGHT THAT I HAD FOUND HIS FIRST WIFE ON AN 1880 CENSUS STILL LIVING WITH HER PARENTS, BUT I RECHECKED TONIGHT AND COULDN'T FIND HER. SO EVEN THOUGH THE INFORMATION ABOUT John Milton, BOTH MARRIAGES AND ALL ELSE IS CORRECT, I HAVE TO ASSUME THAT SHE DIED, ALTHOUGH I DON'T KNOW WHEN FOR SURE BUT SOMETIME BETWEEN 1872 AND 1874 (MAKING WM. J. LEVEL A WIDOW WHEN HE MARRIED A SECOND TIME. HOPEFULLY I CAN CONFIRM THIS WITH CEMETARY RECORDS OR AN OBITUARY.) The Level branch of the family tree has been hard to trace. I know from family rumor that there were two brothers who came over here sometime in the 17th century who were of French descent but I've consentrated my search here in Missouri because I don't know enough yet to link up with the other Level families on the East coast. I do know that William Julian Level's mother, Elizabeth, married Alfred Resinger in 1858 in St. Francios Co. MO. Also that William Julian Level was married two times. The first time to an Emma Sebastian of St. Genevieve Co., daughter of Milton Sebastian, and then he married Emmaline Shannon of St. Francios Co., daughter of Rev. John Crabtree Shannon. Wm. J. Level had a daughter named Lilly with his first wife, who didn't survive and one son, who he took with him to his new marriage, John Milton Level. I figured this out mainly from records and dates that didn't mesh. On family Bible records it shows John Milton was born in 1871 and he is listed with the other children of Wm. J and Emmaline Shannon Level. This created my first puzzle since Wm. and Emmaline didn't get married until 24 Dec 1874. Another interesting fact about Wm. Julian was found in Emmaline Level's obituary. It states that Wm. J. Level was a Justice of the Peace in St. Francios Co. for sixteen years. I'm currently working on finding his obit. There wouldn't be a death certificate since he died in 1906. SCHUEPFER - From my research I know that Coelestin Maximilian Schuepfer came over to the United States in 1892 to work for Anheiser Busch as a cooper. He immigrated from Wuertzburg, Germany. His brother Angelus was a priest and I have a family photo of Coelestin's mother and two sisters, Veronica and Theodora. He met and married Franziska Beck in St. Louis in 1893. She had a twin sister that stayed in Frieburg, Germany. JOHNSTON - The Johnstons have proved of great interest to me because of the different parts they played in not only the beginnings of the state but in the county of Jefferson. We've had lawyers, judges, sheriffs and JP's in the Johnston line. |
