1. PATRICK¹ KEHOE was born 1800 in Wexford, Ireland, and died January 13, 1866 in Newark, NJ. He married MARY ANN HOPPER Abt. 1830, daughter of WILLIAM HOPPER and ELIZABETH VAN CLEEF.

Notes for PATRICK KEHOE:
In 1836 there were only five "clothiers" in Newark, NJ.
St. John's Church was begun in 1820, and was the first Catholic Parish in Newark, and is likely where all of Patrick's children were baptized.

In the 1840 census, He is listed as having six children, three boys and three girls. This does not match the 1850 census, so it is likely that at least two of their children died at a very early age. This is made more likely by child mortality statistics for the day. The odds of a child living past age 5 were about 50/50.

The name "Kehoe" is mispelled as "Kahoe" in the 1940 census, and in the 1835 Newark Directory.

In the 1870 Census, William is listed as head of household, with no wife. However, five of his brothers and sisters are living with him. This means that Mary Kehoe was deceased by 1870, and William took in his four youngest sisters and brother. His sister Sarah, who is a year younger than he, lives there and apparently is also unmarried.
