John is listed in the 1890 Eleventh Census of The United States, Special Schedule for Surving Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Widows, for Union Township, NJ, Bergen County, Enumeration District 98. Under "disability incurred" it states: "Right Leg Shot Off." There is a three year gap between his first and second child, which corresponds precisely to the length of his military service.

3. THOMAS² KEHOE (PATRICK¹) was born Bet. August 1840 - 1844 in Newark, NJ. He married SARAH AGNES DORNAN June 18, 1863 in Newark, NJ, St. Patrick's Cathedral, by Fr. Doane, daughter of JOHN DORNAN and ANNE.

Notes for THOMAS KEHOE:
There is a discrepancy regarding ages of Thomas and his family between different censuses... this seems to be typical though. Birthdays were not such a big affair at the time, and since most pople were illiterate, they tended to guess ages for census takers and at events such as marriages or funerals.

Marriage Notes for THOMAS KEHOE and SARAH DORNAN:
In the 1800 Census, Thomas and Sarah have five children. The 1900 Census states that Sarah is the mother of eight children, six of which are still living. In the 1920 census, her son, John Kehoe, is listed as living with a sister, Irene, age 32. For some reason she was not living at home at the time of the 1900 Census, when she was 12. There is no 1890 census: it was destroyed by fire near the turn of the century.
