We're all cousins... one big family. Trying to find out just how we are related is the problem. Helping each other out is the solution. Who knows where the branches of our Family Tree may take us? That's the adventure of searching.
My tree's roots are in Kentucky. The main branches are in Estill Co., Kentucky. It seems a large part of the population of that area began with a William ROGERS b 1797 d 7 Jan. 1869 m 19 July 1813 to Abigail LARRISON b 1800 d 1 Jan 1882. William was an ordained minister and traveled about in Estill Co, KY. He and Abigail had 22 children, 14 of them lived to adulthood. By his death his descendants had given him 207 grandchildren. (Information from THE ROGERS FAMILY by Ellen & Diane Rogers.) Other names in this family are CASE, WATSON, SMITH, and LEE. I am particularly interested in finding the Cherokee link to this family. Older Family photos show obvious traits of Indian roots. This branch also leads to North Carolina.
Another branch that has not been easy to trace is the PETERS, WAGONER link from my mother's side of the family. It reaches into Cincinati, Ohio and on to Germany. Some of the WAGONER roots are rumored to be in Scotland and Holland. Adam John PETERS Jr. was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1866. His wife's maiden name of HELBING, from family records, cannot be traced. I assume it has been misspelled since it is of German origin.
Finally, my husband's side of the family has quite a few branches that need some TLC. Samuel Peter KELLEY b 16 Mar 1854 resided in Newport, KY. He and a son also did some work in a Pendleton Co mine. Some other names in this list are HUG, BONAR, REED, and HANNA.
There are many other names entwined in my Family Tree. Maybe yours is there too. If you find mistakes, and I'm sure there are some, please let me know.
