He married Judith Carol Kelly on November 13, 1961 in Ringold, GA, daughter of Robert Howell Kelly and Gladys Chrystell Britt.

!Bob was a fine basketball player and attended Vanderbilt University on a full scholarship, g raduating as captain of the basketball team. He was a floor general of the first order. Foll owing college he coached high school basketball in Georgia and Kentucky before returning to V anderbilt as the Freshman coach. It was during this tenure that he was stricken with kidne y disease which he did not survive. He is buried in Leitchfield, Kentucky.
