Notes for John Franklin Kelly: John was a cival war veteran and was one of seven survivors of his cavalry troop. His troo p was Company C and was part of Kings Battalion. His company saw action in Paris, Tennesse e and was part of the Chickamayga Lookout Mountain campaign August 16 to September 22, 1863 . Their last campaign was Atlanta between May 14 and June 4, 1864. His company was in the r ear guard at Shiloh since the lay of the land did not promote the use of calvery. Sid Easle y has a button from John's tunic. (Carl N. Kelly has copies of two short records of Co. "C " 1st Kentucky Cavalrymen.) John finished the war as a 2nd Lt.
Carl has a family photograph of the John F. Kelly family at the old home place which shows al l the children, Robert's first wife and son Carl. A letter from Sid to Carl Neal dated Janua ry 31, 1989(8) has some stories about John and his family.
