My KALLAM progenitors come mainly from Surry County, North Carolina. Some previously were from Rockingham County, North Carolina. The surname spelling was changed by my father, Charlie Lemuel K---, to KELLAM. He moved to Henry County, Virginia in 1943.

Also researching my mother's VIA family. She was Hattie Ellen Via, born February 14, 1905 in Patrick County, Virginia and died in 1995 in Henry County, VA. Her father was Charles William Via (b-1874 d-1919) and Sallie Bet Craig Via (b-1873 d-1943). Charles William Via was the son of Samuel Via and Mary Jane Moran Via. Samuel Via was the son of Anderson Via and Jane Vest Via. Predominant counties for these individuals are Franklin, Patrick and Henry - in Virginia.

My wife's family comes mostly from South Carolina and Georgia. Those surnames are RICE, PATTERSON, LAWTON and MANER.
Notable among them, James Henry Rice, Sr. and Jr., who distinguished themselves in South Carolina military and politics in the 19th century. Another, Carew Rice, was a noted silhouette artist, specializing in coastal creations.
