I am researching my Great Grandfather, John Jones born abt 1856. He came to the US from Finland in 1881. He changed his name when he came here and as of yet we have not been able to learn his given name. He married Anna Walborg Ämmälä (born 1 Dec 1873) in abt 1900. They had 4 children, Ina Wilhelmina, William John, Karlo/Carl and Walter B. John died between 27 Jan 1913 when Walter was born and 1920 when Anna was on the census in Minneapolis, Minnesota as a widow.
I am also researching Ruby Belle Blood, 17 Mar 1918 in South Dakota, wife of Walter B. Jones, 27 Jan 1913, in Minnesota. We have always been told that there was Indian (Blackfoot possibly) in our Blood family line and we have yet to find that line.
Researching Joel Hokkanen, 13 Aug 1882, Karstula, Vassa, Finland. He was born to Anna Huhtala, 07 Oct 1855, Karstula, Vassa, Finland. Father is unknown and he was raised by his grandparents until he came to the US; Philadelphia Passenger Lists, Sailing from Liverpool 27 Sep 1899 and arriving in US Oct 1899 on ship Rhynland. He married Ida Ahola in Waukegan, Illinois 02 Aug 1902. They had 9 children, 5 born in Waukegan, Illinois and 4 born in Meeker Co., Minnesota. After Ida's death in 1940 he married Hanna Korkonen - Mar 1942. He died 19 Feb 1953 in Sanford, Seminole, Florida, US and is buried in Meeker Co., Minnesota. It is said that Joel's father came to the US and lived in Ohio until his death at which time Joels' daughter, Eleanora, was a child. Eleanora remembered that Joel was called to go to his father but he didn't get there before his father passed away. Joel and his half-siblings had an uncle, August Hokkala, who also lived in Kingston, Minnesota. Maybe some of these clues will help me to find my G-G-Grandfather Hokkanen and family.
Researching John Abram Rappana, born May 27, 1843, Kemijärvi, Finland (Living on Raappana farm)to Pehr Pehrsson Lambela and Anna, died 3 Mar 1900, Meeker, Minnesota, USA. (Previous name was Suopanki. Raappana became their name later because they lived on the Raappana farm in Kemijarvi.) He married Briita Stiina Kerkelä, born to Olof Ericksson Kerkelä and Anna. Date: September (no day), 1842. Baptized October 2, 1842 in Kemijärvi, Finland, died 13 May 1927 in Minnesota, USA. They married July 3, 1870, Vadso, Norway. Their son John Petter was born Jun 1872 in Vadsø, Norway. Son Charles Abram (Carl)was born 8 Oct 1873 in Michigan. They had 7 other children all born in Meeker Co. Minnesota between 1875 and 1888 - Edward, William F, Hilda, Oscar, Hjalmar, Ella and Hilma.
Researching Carolyn Sue Strange, born 18 Oct 1941 in Fayetteville,Arkansas, died 19 Apr 1971 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She married William C Keeton in 1961 and divorced 1966. They had one son, Kerry C Keeton, born 22 Feb, 1963. She married John Robert Keller in 1967. She died in a car accident in Little Rock. She has 2 brothers, Carl Dean and James W. Strange also in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
I am also trying to find the living children of Patricia Dee Griffin (Phelps, Omara) born 12 Jun 1938 in Minnesota She lived on the corner of Lyndale & Dowling in North Minneapolis, Minnesota. I think the names of children are Julie, Roberta (Bobbie), Kim/Kay (?), Tracy & James. Kim/Kay is my half sister and I would like to find her and locate my teenage friend Julie. I think Patricia has a half brother who lived in Anoka, Minnesota - Randy Triemert.
