Harold Henry Colyer (son of Grantison Colyer and Bertha Mason) was born December 30, 1922 in Kirksville, Missouri, and died June 25, 1988 in Cole Camp Missouri. He married Mildred Lee Lyons, daughter of Sidney B. Lyons and Martha Lucinda Brown.

Harold Henry Colyer

Harold Colyer was born was born and raised in Kirksville Missouri, on December 30, 1922. His parents Grantison and Bertha Colyer.
He met Mildred Lee Lyons in Kirksville and they were married in Laplata Missouri on March 29, 1924. .
He entered the U.S Army on February 22, 1943 in Fort Leavenworth Kansas.His Military specialty was a rifleman. He served in World War 2 and was under the command of General Patton. He was stationed in Africa in September of 1943 and also in Italy in February of 1944. He was wounded in the hand in Italy and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He did not like to talk about the war, but what he did talk about was terrible, how he had to sleep in fox holes and how cold he would get. he would never talk about the killing of the enemy.
Harold and Mildred had 3 children born to them in Kirksville Missouri. They remained in Kirksville until approx. 1951 when they moved to Kansas City Missouri. Harold was a carpenter. He built and remodeled houses for Standard Improvement for several years and later had his own remodeling company. Harold was a very hard worker, as I remember he would go to work early and would not get home until 8 or 9 PM. He and his son Michael raced Go carts for recreation. they won several trophys. He also shot fireworks and the local Drive Inns on the 4th of July. He family always was afraid that he would get hurt as he would go the day before and dig big holes to set the shell in, but he never once got hurt. He did this for several years.
He built a beautiful home in 1964 in Raytown Missouri where he and Mildred lived. They had horses and some cattle. He was working in the bran when it exploded, but luckily he was not seriously hurt.
Harold was a very kind and gentle person, If his family would need anything he would always be there to help, but not without a lecture first, as he always worried about spending money foolishly. He would like to get in debates with people, especially issues on religion.
He and Mildred divorced approx in 1966. He married Pricialla Preston. and lived on a farm in Cole Camp Missouri, with 99 acres. They were divorced
after approx 3 years. He then remarried Mildred .
He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 1987 and passes away on June 25, 1988 at home in Cole Camp Missouri.
Harold was a wonder father and a grandfather, He was always there for any of us kids if we needed help, And taught us responsibility. We all love and miss him terribly.
