| The earliest known member of this "Kelley" family was Peter Kelley. Most likely, Peter was born sometime between 1835 to 1845 either in Ireland, or Scotland. According to my Dad, he came from Londonderry, Ireland. He married a Jennie ____. There were two children: Margaruerite "Pearl" Kelley born ca.1885 and Redmond A Kelley born November, 1890. Redmond later changed his name to Raymond A Kelley. Raymond Kelley married Mary Hinck in 1913, and produced two heirs ~ Dorothy in 1914 and John Raymond in 1916. My Dad, John died in 1986 and Dorothy in 1997. During his lifetime, Ray Kelley became a very successful stock trader until the 1929 Stock Market Crash. John Kelley Sr. married Margaret C Flaherty in October 1937. The Flahertys came before and during the American Civil War. The first Flaherty directly related to our family was James Flaherty born 1830 in County Clare, Ireland. He immigrated to the United States in 1863 and became an American citizen in 1868. His son, Michael Flaherty and his father were florists in Blissville section of Long Island City. Michael Flaherty married Mary Agnes Tracey in 1889 and my grandfather James Tracey Flaherty was born July 23, 1890. James Flaherty married Margaret Muller in 1916 and my mom, Margaret Christine Flaherty was the first of four daughters born to my grandparents. James Tracey Flaherty, my grandfather, was Assistant Train Master during the 2nd World War for the Pennsylvania RR. My mother Margaret C Kelley was a very successful business woman. She was Treasurer and Comptroller to Fred Astaire Dance Studios during the 1950s and early 1960s. Later, my mom became comptroller for Foundation for Cooperative Houseing in Connecticut. My dad, John R. Kelley, Sr. was equally successful. He was a technical writer and editor for corporations involved in the defense field. He later became President of Eastern Housing Cooperatives along with my mother who was Vice President and Comptroller dealing with over 2000 units in New England. My parents had two off spring: John R.Kelley, Jr. and Pamela Ann Kelley. I married Norma G. Scorgie in 1964. Norma's roots are found in Scotland and England. She became a citizen August 31, 2001. We have two children: Eric John Kelley born 1965 and Deborah Norma Kelley born 1966. I am creating a photographic family history and continuing a search for all aspects of my family's history in the 19th century America. This effort is to create a basis for all members of our family tree to continue the search for our roots. It is a long and worthy effort that gives meaning to our lives. |
