Checking on defunct Bute county's history, it's roots lie in the above Perquimans county area. So the name, basic area, and dates seem to match up, also.... From Barbara H., "Go to: www.ancestry.com & key in Rachel Calloway. Then just click away all the way back to Haute WYATT and England. I am beginning to think that maybe we do go back to him! I am going to contact the submitter and check her information sources. If proven, then all we have to do is prove our link back to John and Rachel. Jody seems to think it is right track. She said she always thought that if one of the lines in NC went back to Haute, this one would be it!

Notes for Jordan Wyatt: bondsman for Thomas Wiett (Wyatt) and Rachel Parks who were married in Rowan County North Carolina, 12 January 1793. In 1818 Jordan and Susannah purchased land in Estell County, located on the north banks of the Kentucky River, and including area known as Old Landings Hill, then Estill County, now Lee County Kentucky. (Lee Co. established 1870) This land is now a part of the Daniel Boone Natural Forest. Following the death of Susannah, Jordan married Margaret "Peggy" Moore, a widow aged about 47. Mrs. Moore was apparently a widow of some means. She owned land in her own name near Possum Run Creek at the time she and Jordan married, and together they were involved in several land transactions in Estill County.

Notes for Jordan Wyatt: Volunteer U.S. Federal Service, Mexican War. Enlisted with the First Regiment, Texas Mounted Volunteers, better known as the Texas Rangers.First served with Company E, recruited at Cedar Springs, Falls County Texas from July to September 1846, and in John Long's Company, recruited in San Antonio, Texas from May to June 1847. He re-enlisted for twelve months in company H, recruited in Austin, Texas from June 1847 to June 1848, serving under Captain James S. Gillett. These companies saw battle on the Rio Grande, and also lost several of their men in skirmishes with the indians. Jordan married Charlotte Petty in 1849. His Mexican War record states they married in Bexar which at that time was a large Land district. They appear on the 1850 census of Milam County. Jordan's occupation listed as "ferryman." Charlotte was the daughter of Theophalus Petty and Charlotte Sorrells. Her parents came from Butler County Kentucky to Texas before 1849, and appear on the same 1850 census of Milam County. Bell County was established in the latter part of 1850 from division of Milam land District, and Jordan appears on the tax rolls of Bell County 1851-54. According to his Mexican War pension record, the family lived six years in Bell County, one year in Bastrop County and one year in Lampasas County, where he had received a land grant for his war service. Jordan was a member of the Ridge Company of Infantry under the leadership of Captain A.J.Ridge; Organized in October 1861. Later he was in Company three under Captain G.C.Bettie, organized in January 1864. In 1875 Jordan and Charlotte purchased 160 acres along the east bank of the Colorado River near McAnnely's Bend. This land, a part of the William Hargrove 640 acre headright, was purchased from the heirs of John Giddings for the sum of $42.00. The deed states that Jordan Wyatt had been living on this land for "many years." Farming and ranching was the main way of living in that area and Jordan was primarily a farmer, but he did run few cattle under the brand "WY". Notes for Susannah Wyatt: Census records establishes James and Susannah in Burnet County in 1880 with the two oldest children, and living neighbors to Jordan and Charlotte. Susannah was deserted by her husband soon after Mary Ann was born in 1884. Left with four small children to raise, I expect life was hard for her. She never re-married. Susannah and her daughter, Mary Ann are listed in the 1900 census of Tarrant County with her oldest son, John Riley Stephens, still single, but listed head of household. The other two children appaently already married and on their own. The 1910 census of Tarrant County places her in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, John and Mary Ann Dragoo.

Notes for William Bell Wyatt: Bill spent a lot of time on cattle drives, and was away from home for long periods. These absences undoubtably contributed to the breakup of his marriage to Mary. For whatever reason they were apparently divorced by 1885. Not long after the break-up, Mary Elizabeth married James F. Stephens, who was previously married to Bill's sister, Susannah. Living out their life in Wilson County Texas, James and Mary raised five children of their own, plus the five Wyatt children, who never saw their father again, and thought him dead many years before the fact. Bill continued to travel, and for a time he drove a freight wagon from Wichita Falls, Texas to points West.

Notes for David Thompson: Civil War- began with the Caldwell Minute Men in May of 1861. This company of about 75 met in Kingston, Missouri, for drill. The Minute Men became the Caldwell light infantry, under General Price's army. Soon after, this infantry became Company D of Col. John T. Hughes' regiment, of General Stein's division. The Caldwell company took part in the Battles of Carthage, Wilson's Creek, and Lexington. Just days before the Carthage fight, David Thompson was chosen as Captain. Near the end of 1861, most of these men reinlisted in Company H, 2nd Missouri infantry, C.S.A., with Captain David Thompson continuing as company commander. Some of these men fell at Pea Ridge. The company went with General Price at the siege of Corinth, Mississipi, and also the Vicksburg campaign. They were captured with Pemberton's army at the fall of Vicksburg, and all but a few of the members were sent to a parole camp at Demopolis, Alabama, until they were exchanged. Captain Thompson left the company at Tupelo, Mississippi, in the summer of 1862, came back to Caldwell on recruiting service, was captured by the militia, and was never in active service again. -from "History of Caldwell County"
David is buried in Kingston Cemetery. David settled in Caldwell county as a farmer in 1842. He owned 82 acres there, in Grant Twp, section 6, signed Apr-15-1853. He bought his father's 200 acres in a deed on Aug-9-1860. David traveled toward the 1849 California Gold Rush, but turned back when his brother William got sick.
