This gravemarker of Nathan and Rebecca TOMPKINS [My G-G-Grandparents on my Grandfather's (Nathan
Tompkins Kelly's) maternal side. They are Rebecca
Tompkins Kelly's (Nathan Tompkins KELLY's mother and wife of his father, James KELLY's)parents. Nathan TOMPKINS was the son of my Loyalist ancestor, Israel TOMPKINS,(My G-G-G Grandfather). Private Israel TOMPKINS fought, as a colonist, born in the New York colony, with the British as a member of Kings Loyal Americans, Kings Rangers, Rogers Rangers and Jessup's Loyal Rangers and served the Royal Standard for five (5)years and five (5) months in service to "The Crown" during the American Revolution and was honorably discharged 17, Jan., 1783 at Riviere des Chen.
This gravemarker is located in Lot # 346, Evergreen Cemetery,Blenheim, Harwich Township, Kent County, Ontario, Canada. Nathan TOMPKINS, as a son of Israel TOMPKINS, an United Empire Loyalist, was granted 200 acres of land. Nathan TOMPKINS, of the Township of Rideaux, under an Order-in-Council, dated November 5, 1818. located lot 23, E. S. Communication Road, Township of Harwich. For his services as a private in Daniel Burritt's Flank Company, Second Regiment of Grenville Militia, between July 2nd, 1812 and January 2nd., 1813, he received the east half of Lot 5, Concession 10, Township of Moore. In a book mentioning the Veteran's of 1812: "Nathan TOMPKINS - Am 79; was in Captain Burritt's Company
as a private; Colonel Fraser commanded; enlisted at Rideau in 1812; was at the taking of Ogdensburg and several skirmishes; was not wounded; have no medal or papers; was discharged at Prescott in 1813." My War of 1812 ancestor, Nathan TOMPKINS (My G-G-Grandfather) was born in 1796 and died 2, May, 1879.
