Find Family

Three sons of Jonathan Sumners (Burke County, NC, 1790 census), John, Joseph and Abraham, moved to Williamson County, TN about 1796. John and Abraham moved to Lincoln County, TN around 1810. Some of their decendants moved south into Alabama, Georgia and Texas. Joseph moved to Gibson County, Indiana. Other family names that occur are COBLE, DeFORD, GARDNER, LEGG, MARKHAM, RICHEY(RITCHIE), RODEN, SHELTON, WALKER, and WILLIAMSON. Associated lines are BURNETTE, deCHAUMES, DUKE, HUMBERSTONE, MOSBY, ROLLO, SMITH, WEST and YEAGLEY. I am tracing the descendants of Jonathan. There seem to be two separate Sumners lines. Information on both would be appreciated.
The Tennesse Sumners Association publishes a quarterly newsletter to disseminate information on these families, as well as copies of official documents such as wills, Bible pages, etc. There is a family reunion approximately every 18 months. I look forward to hearing from you.
