| Walter Kelly was born in Timahoe, County Kildare, Ireland between 1715 & 1730. He and his brother Timothy came to America by way of Barbados, arriving in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, ca:1735-1750. They settled in South Carolina in the mid 1750's. He and his wife Sadie were in Greenbriar County North Carolina (Muddy Creek) before they "tomahawked" their claim at the mouth of what is now Kelly's Creek on the Kanawha River. The village of Cedar Grove now stands at the mouth of Kelly Creek.Walter was scalped by the Shawnee Indians at Kelly Creek in July 1774. Sadie and the children had already returned to Muddy Creek, and subsequently returned to Cheraw County, South Carolina, with their faithful dog, Bruno. We are researching Walter's descendants, and are especially interested in data on his children and grandchildren. /s/ Merrill Kelly. |
