| ICQ!Do you suppose that we may be looking for the same people? It just may be. Here's where my hunt has me at this time: MY PATERNAL ROOTS: Kelley -- Alexander Giles Kelley, 1832-1882 d. TN. His family later moved to Kentucky then Texas then again to Kentucky, Oklahoma and on to Washington Territory. Shaw -- John Thomas Shaw b.1835 m. Seraphina Fudge in Preble Co. Ohio. Lots of Shaws in Ohio; mine came to Wilbur, Washington. Fudge -- Seraphina's father was Jacob Fudge 1779-1863. He married Elizabeth Potterf 1790-1869. Jacob's father was David and his grandfather John, Sr. The name may have been Fuchs or Focht as the German spelling. Jacob and Elizabeth had 13 children, surely somebody's related here! Potterf,Potter,Pottorff,Potturff,Batdorf,Batdurf,Bottorff -- It's all in a name I guess. Johannes Jacob Batdorf circa 1534-1584 is the earliest name I have from (probably)Westphalia, Germany. Hermanus Batdorf 1718-<1763 who married Catherine Elizabeth Reith 1734->1764 was the first born in America, in Schoharie County, New York. John Casper Batdorf 1758-1836, (m.Susanna Reitenauer 1766-1831) served in the Revolutionary War from both Frederick Co., MD and VA. Settled in Preble Co., Ohio. Many thanks to my "cousin" Mary Weaver who supplied me with vast amounts of information. Other surnames in this line: Reith (Reed); Reitenauer (Ridenour), Walborn, Fisher, Molina. I have tons of Reitenaur names thanks to Mel Ridenour who has a huge directory he has compiled. This can be seen at this URL: http://www.cris.com/~beckins/ridenour/ridenour.html Thanks too to Elmer and Carol Ridenour who have kept me posted on all of the additions to this list. Cassady -- John Cassady 1846-1932 married Leoma Mildred Hind 1860-1935 in 1877 (probably Barren Co., Kentucky). Don't know why John died in Leavenworth, KS., probably don't want to know. (Oh, sure I do!) Two generations took my part of his family to Nebraska and on to Spokane, Washington. Bonner -- Rena Paralee Bonner 1889-1953 was born to William Matthew Veary Bonner 1845-1924 in Rooks, KS. He hailed from Marion Co., Ohio and married Deliah Ann Davis 1853-1919. That's all I know about my great grandmother's side. THE MATERNAL SIDE: Roman -- From Sweden yet! Per Roman married Karin Ericksdotter in Sweden, producing one known child -- Olaf Roman in 1850. He married Maria Westmark. They had 13 children, one of whom was my grandmother Helena Maria Roman 1892-1989. Helena married Dr. Fred Donnell West 1877-1946. West -- Family rumour has it that I should be able to trace this back to Lord de la Ware. I haven't gotten back earlier than Benjamin West 1779-1822 in Binghamton, New York (Bloome Co.)he married Ruth Whitney 1783-1824. They had a Thomas West in 1800 (in NY) who had a Thomas Jefferson West in Ohio in 1836. He married Mary Jane Horner (died 1889) in Melmore, Ohio. It was here my grandfather Fred Donnell West was born. They soon moved to Tiffin, Ohio where I probably have many relatives. Come on Tiffin, I need your help! Thanks for reading through this list. I have about 2,500 names from Adams to Zirkle. I hope to here from you soon, to share some common history. Mike |
