I'm from Dublin, Ireland now living in the Houston area of Texas. My mother was Maureen Mahony from the Dublin area (northside). My grandfather, James Mahony and wife Eliza Maher, on my mother's side, was a police detective in Dublin castle (R.I.C.)during the "Troubles" and later owned a shop in Blackrock. James Mahony, wife and family (1 son and 1 daughter) moved to the U.S. circa 1919 and lived in Yonkers, NY for some time before returning to Ireland. A son, Gerard was born in the U.S. My father's people were from the Cavan or maybe Longford area. My grandfather on my father's side was James Patrick Kelly, wife Mary, lived in Clonlohan, Cavan. My grandfather had a brother who lived in the Boston, MA. area. He had another brother William who owned a furniture store in Dublin and lived around the Navan, Meath area. My father, Edward Kelly (AKA Ned and as a young lad, Sonny) was a Garda (one of the first Garda graduation classes - circa. 1922) in Irishtown Garda station when he retired in 1957. He served in Waterford, Limerick, Donnybrook. He was Dev's bodyguard for awhile and later Derrick's - minister for education. My father had 3 brothers, James Patrick - died in Flushing NY in early 1980's, Thomas - parish priest in Cavan or Longford - died late 1980's, William (Willie) - living in Birmingham, U.K. There are 2 sisters, Margaret (Peg) nee Reilly (Navan, Meath)living in Bray, Wicklow and Barbara (Babs) living in the U.K.
