| Updated February 2007 I have been interested in my family's history since I was a child. I finally did something about it in 1997, and went about collecting information from relatives. Thanks to my cousin Nancy, I was able to make a solid family tree for my maternal grandfather's side of the family. Without her research, I never would have known where to begin. A few years ago I found out that my ancestry on my paternal grandmother's side goes back to before the Revolutionary War in America, and that we were all eligible for membership in the patriotic societies like the Daughters of the American Revolution. The only way to prove this, however, was to get "The Book" - an enormous compilation published in 1952 by Margaret Birney Pittis, a cousin in Ohio. My paternal grandmother told me it was making the rounds through the family, and she would try to get it for me. My cousin Susan had it, and it was in such bad shape that she and her husband restored it in lovely red binding and gold lettering. I finally got "The Book" - named "The Hout Family" - in August 2000 while in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Many of our ancestors eventually settled in this area. My grandmother wasn't the one to finally give me the book, however - she died at 3:25 pm on Monday, August 21. I got there in time to be at her side for a few hours before she passed away. My Aunt Kay gave me the book that week. This is a work in progress, and will be updated continuously. Due of recent upheavals in my life, this process will take longer than I originally thought. Graduate school (which is time-consuming enough) and the loss of my husband, Danny, who passed away on August 27, 2004 at age 32 made life difficult and I did not spend as much time as I had hoped on my genealogy projects. However, I am finally out of the all-consuming fog of grief that occured after the death of my husband. I have a new life, and the gut-wrenching process leading to acceptance is finally acheived. I have many people to thank for helping me through the stages of grief, including my family and friends. Special, heartfelt thanks go to my grandparents for their support through those years - I could not have overcome the loss without them. My apologies to those who were in line to get "The Book." I transfered as much information (all those names!) from the book to the FTM 2006 program on my computer as I could, given the time I had. As always, if anyone sees any errors that need correcting, call or email me, please. I have not updated this tree in a long time, but hope to have corrections up in the coming year. Many thanks to Nancy Miller Paskin, Susan Mellott, and my beloved Grama. Thank you, Grama, for fighting to see that I got the book. Thanks to you I finally got it, and I put it to good use. I sent it back to Aunt Kay, so whomever is next in line to use it, treasure that book! This history is dedicated to my wonderful family, especially my grandparents, Mr.& Mrs. Miller and Mr.& Mrs. Kelly, and the newest generations of our family - those in KY and in Phoenix - you know who you are! |
