This whole process started of from a comment from my Mother. She felt she had not had the Family contact that a lot of families have. She didn't know much about her Mother or Father. She was very young when they both died. Hardly a year old when her Father died. She was about eight years of age when her mother was killed by enemy action, during WW2. Mum was in Cornwall at the time during the evacuation period. It turned out that my Father was also in the same boat, although I don't think it concerned him as much as my Mother. Finding out about Mum's side wasn't easy to start with. There wasn't a lot of relatives left by this time. But a sudden break through and an off the cuff comment by one of Mum's surviving relatives took us to the Beautiful Island of Bute on the west coast of Scotland. Thus began the search for my Mothers heritage. |
