The Watkins of Northwest Georgia

Updated December 5, 2008

Hello all. I've been working on the genealogy of my paternal maternal side for some time now. I've also been working on my late fathers paternal side but concentrating on one side at a time, or one name if you will, makes a bit more sense and keeps things at a manageable level. I'm particularly intrigued by Annie Watkins (later Annie Bradford) of Blue Ridge Georgia and her siblings and further back in the family. I have no idea why she stands out but stand out she does. She was first supposedly married to a man going by the last name of either Sisson or Scissum? when I wrote this down long ago another family geneographer suggested that it more than likely was Sisson as that family name is all over the North West Georgia area and Scissum has not been heard of. Some day I hope to figure that out. He supposedly died and then she remarried Jim Bradford who was 15 or so years her junior. I have some oral history about them from that point on but not a lot. I have also been told that the Watkins side has some Cherokee blood in them through a story that was written to be about one person going off with a native, getting pregnant and coming back later with children. Since many Cherokee did live in the area and often married whites there is a good chance that this is truth. No family reunions planned at this point but maybe I'll go down there in the future to explore my family's history.Anyways..hope to keep working on this site. Patience!!
