John Christopher McGee died at his home 9 West Tremlett Street, Dorchester, MA at the age of 78. John C. McGee owned and operated the Codman Square Barber Shop that opened in 1903 or 1904. One of his customers was John Francis Fitzgerald ("Honey Fitz") was President John F. Kennedy's maternal grandfather. "Honey Fitz" also lived in Dorchester, MA.


John Christopher McGee was a director of the Codman Square Cooperative Bank, a member of the Codman Square Improvement Association and a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Leo's Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

He retired after 50 years.

Brothers' John and Thomas McGee married first cousins. John to Elizabeth Costigan (daughter of Vincent Costigan and Mary Myers) and Thomas to Mary Costigan (daughter of Charles Costigan and Agnes LeCoeur).

Elizabeth (Costigan) McGee had about 22 pregnancies, including three sets of twins, and a number of stillborns. An RH negative factor is believed to be the reason her children did not survive. Six children did survive, however, one son John Francis McGee died of Peritonitis at the age of 7 on the first day of school. His older sister (Mary Regina McGee) by three years was sent to the school to tell the teacher. She sat on the steps and cried until the teacher came out. She didn't believe he was dead. She thought they loved him so much they were hiding him from her. It was a sad time.
