Welcome to my ancestry home page. As a child in Junior High School, I was required to make a family tree and write what information I could about my family history.

My mom gave me the family history she had made when she was a child, and I was hooked!

And, then I spoke to my grandmother who mentioned we had ancestors who came from England shortly after the Mayflower and my interest really peaked!

Well, all that happened many years ago. My cousin recently retired and sent to me many notebooks filled with wonderful research. He had spent years traveling and researching and I felt very honored that he trusted me with all his labors of love!

In 2000, a Sloan Family reunion was held in New Boston, Illinois (Mercer County). Much of that genealogy was researched by my Uncle John Sloan, former sheriff of Mercer County.

This page is dedicated to:

my mom, Lulabel Eileen Fortney,

my grandmother, Lula Belle Clothier,

my cousin, Donald Wilfong,

and my uncle, John R. Sloan.

The surnames I am researching are Sloan, Beard, Fortney, Clothier, Shunick, Lee, Weatherbee, Bender, Trussler, Crull, York, Johnston, Marsh, Arnold, Antis, Schoener, Manchester, Martin, Holden, Smith, Lindsey, May, Farley, Fosdick, Kenny, Tonge.

My mother and me sitting on the piano bench with my sister and brother and grandma. I love this photo. Note the rocking horse, doll and rolley-polley toy. This was a player piano. Note all of the rolls of music on the piano. I would slide down the banaster on the stairs in the background (when I wasn't tumbling down the stairs.) I also like the flowery wall paper. The door leads down to the basement where our chores included stoking the furnace and removing the clinkers. Also, our dog, Phoebe, delivered her 9 puppies there. Pete Patterson's beagle was the father of the puppies.
