Samuel Kendel Died Suddenly Last Friday
Leaf River, Oct. 20 [1903]--Samuel Kendel, an old resident of Leaf River and pioneer settler of Ogle county died very suddenly last Friday at his home while sitting in a chair. Mr. Kendel was in his usual good health up to about a week before he died and the day before his death he was up town when he complained some with a pain about his heart.
Mr. Kendel was about 75 years of age and moved to this village about six months ago from Mt. Morris township. He is survived by a wife and seven children, who have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. Mrs. John Rice of Mt. Morris is a sister of the deceased, and Joseph Kendel, residing north of town, is a brother. Funeral Services were held Sunday at M. E. Church conducted by Rev. Pittman of the Christian Church. The remains were laid to rest in the West Grove Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________________________________ The 1880 US Census shows Samuel's age as 41 b. Although the newspaper obit shows Samuel was 75 yeas of age, the death certificate indicates he was 80 years 1 month 17days old and lived in IL for 53 years. There is a discrepancy as to his exact date of birth. Unalbe to locate birth record.
