The McAlpines of South Ekfrid, Ontario, CanadaUpdated September 19, 2006
|Family history has been an ongoing project with my ancestors and myself for many decades. My husband and I have published "The McAlpines of South Ekfrid", a 261-page history of my Highland Scots ancestors. Currently, it is in its second edition.
The book includes text, photos, maps, family tree charts and a 22-page index. It outlines the story of six McAlpine brothers and their widowed mother who emigrated from Lochgilphead in Argyllshire to the southern part of Ekfrid Township in Ontario, near the future site of Glencoe, circa 1829.
The names of related families include Abbott, Campbell, Coad, Curry, Eaton, Galbraith, Graham, Leitch, Martin, McArthur, McColl, McDonald, McDonnell, McEachran, McLachlan, McRae, Mitchell, Sutherland, Taylor, Thomson and numerous others.
Also included in the volume is a 20-page "Glencoe of Yesteryear" section, which may be of interest to persons who have memories of the town from many years ago. This section includes a map of historic Glencoe by the late Malcolm M. McAlpine (1887-1946) and his daughter Doris Kendrick (1925-1992).
Unfortunately, all copies of "The McAlpines of South Ekfrid" are sold out, but we can always do another printing if we receive enough orders. All enquiries are welcome. If you are interested in a family reunion, please mention this as well.
