On Friday, November 24, Mr. Ring is alleged to have created a disturbance at the restaurant which is conducted by Mrs. Ring and that he flourished a large knife which he threatened to u??? upon the first person that got in his way. It is said that he tried to catch his daughter and while chasing her i? (in) an enraged state of mind a number of men came to the rescue, and ??? overpowering him took the knife away. Seeing that he could not carry out his point, he threatened to commit suicide and declared that he was going to ???? river to put an end to his life. Turning around, he started down Main Street in the direction of the river. N?? (not) thinking that he meant what he said no one paid any attention to him.
On his way down Main street he stopped at the saloon of John ??boloski and purchased a drink of whiskey. He left the saloon and we?? (went) in the direction of Allgair's dock from which it supposed he jumped i? (in) the river without hesitation.
When he left home he had six dollars in money and a check for twe??? (twenty) dollars. The latter was issued by a Keyport man. It was thought that Mr. Ring could be traced by the check as same would be cashed if he were traveling. The family got in communication with the Keyport man to ascertain if the check had been cashed and returned to him.
When word was received that the check was still out?? (outstanding) the family became suspicious that he had carried out his threat in take ?? (taking) his life.
Coroner Hubbard of New Brunswick gave a permit to remove the body to Morgan's morgue where ?? reviewed the remains.
The deceased had lived in South River six(t)een years and was well known among the business men in the county. He conducted a large grocery store and meat market on Williams Street for a number of years. Later he opened a delicatessen store on Ferry street. Following his business venture, he and his wife opened up a restaurant on Main Street opposite the old post office. He was born in Austria and had been in the U.S. about twenty years. He leaves a widow, a daughter, Helen, and one brother (?) and was a member of the local Hebrew Association.
