* The Culver Family Home Page*

Updated September 6, 2000

I am researching the lines of three African-American families with roots in Georgia during the 1800s & 1900s: Culver, Morse, and Harper. The Culvers resided in Sandersville Georgia. The Harpers, in Sparta, Georgia. And I'm not certain which area in GA. the Morses resided.

William Harper was born April 1, 1919 in Sparta; died Dec 17, 1974 in N.Y.
His mother's name was Alberta, but I don't know his father's first name.

Annie Mary Culver was born December 19, 1925 in Sandersville, GA.
Her father's name was Herbert Culver; her mother's name was Annie Louise Morse. Annie Louise Morse's mother was a light-skinned slave. Her father was George Morse, who was born of white and black parents. He bought acres of land as a sharecropper.

Both the Culvers and the Harpers later moved to New York City.

I'm just beginning my search; this is my first effort.
I have a feeling that, unless I find a connection to Alex Haley, this is going to be a long journey :-)
I look forward to any information you can share with me and, of course, I'd be pleased help you with anything I've found. Thanks.
