10. DANIEL HATTON⁵ VERNOR (GEORGE W.⁴, ZENAS H.³, HENRY², WILLIAM¹)¹² was born December 27, 1868 in Nashville, Illinois, and died May 14, 1940. He married MARY ELZONA HOOK September 4, 1889, daughter of JOHN HOOK and HANNAH RHINE. She was born January 30, 1870 in Nashville, IL, and died June 22, 1948.

Notes for DANIEL HATTON VERNOR:
A brief biographical sketch appeared in a 1979 history of Washington County. Daniel operated a grocery store at 112 West Main Street in Nashville, IL.

Notes for CHARLES DANIEL VERNOR:
According to a 1979 history of Washington County, "Charlie" was a talented musician who served as organist, pianist and teacher at the local Baptist church. He also worked at the YMCA and a meat market in East St. Louis before he was drafted in 1918. After his return he worked in oil fields in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. He returned to Nashville to care for his mother-in-law and opened "Vernor's Cafe". After his wife Ruth died, he remarried and gained step-children (and grandchildren). He had no children of his own.

11. ALICE⁵ VERNOR (GEORGE W.⁴, ZENAS H.³, HENRY², WILLIAM¹) was born February 24, 1870, and died July 14, 1942. She married (1) JAMES FREDERICK SMITH. He died Unknown. She married (2) XXX STROH. He died Unknown.

Notes for ALICE VERNOR:
Some confusion on the date of Alice' death. Tombstone says 1942, but unpublished genealogy says 1972 (!) Alice had two spouses, J. Smith and a later Mr. Stroh. In addition to the one daughter, Alice Smith, the unpblished genealogy lists a daughter Helen and son Harold V. There is no information on Helen in the unpublished work; Harold V. is listed as dying in infancy (1890-1891).

I spoke to Helen A. Smith by phone in 1994; she said James Smith was killed in a tornada; afterwards Alice Vernor remarried a "Virginian".

He married MARGARET MARIA DONAHO¹⁵ February 13, 1896 in Nashville, Illinois, daughter of JOHN DONAHO and FRANCIS MULLIN. She was born February 10, 1870 in Greencastle, Indiana, and died March 31, 1945.

Nickname was "Maggie". Alternate spelling = Donahue.

According to an 1979 history of Washington County, Enloe Vernor became a lawyer after graduating from Washington University, and went on to practice law in Muskegee, Oklahoma where he served as an elected county judge for twenty-five years.
