The Killicoat/Stevenson Family Home Page

Updated September 5, 2000

The Killlicoat Family originated in Cornwall, emmigrating to South Australia in the middle of the 19th century where Captain Isaac Killicoat was responsible for saving the territory from bankruptcy by using his skills to promote copper mining. A few Killicoats remain in Australia with the descendants of one family staying in the U.K. More recently there is a family connection with Ireland through the Hutchison and McMaster families.
The Stevenson Family, mainly an Ayrshire/Renfrewshire one, can trace ancestors back to Hugh Gilchrist in Loudoun ca. 1650 and David Steel (a Covenantor martyr) about the same period in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. The main Stevenson family names are Gemmil, Cochrane, Gilchrist, Dunning, Kennedy, Hutchison, Sandilands, Gardiner, Fleming and Steel.
