Notes for John Joseph Murphy:
John was born on January 25, 1845 and he emigrated to the United States arriving in Boston during June 1845.I believe that he was on board th "Asia of Boston"weight of 474 tons, Captained by Barry S. Mallet arriving Boston on July 30, 1845 with 189 passengers on boardWe presume that his parents Daniel and Catherine emigrated with him because he was less than 6 months old when he arrived.As far as can be found they resided in Boston (probably Roxbury or South Boston).Mary arrived in Boston in the year 1867 (no record has been found as yet) and they were married in St. Patricks, Roxbury on August 8, 1869.Standing up for them were Michael and Julia White, and Thomas Lynch.Rev. Joseph H. Gallagher presided.They were living in Ward 6, Boston according to the 1870 census.They moved to Gloucester and they resided on Quarry Street according to the 1880 census.They had five children namely Daniel, Katie, Nellie, Mary and Julia.They subsequently moved to Quincy.John was naturalized in the District Court in Boston on October 29, 1893. Vouching for him were Patrick A. Neil and Michael Sullivan.Once again, he worked in the Quincy quarries.He died on July 27, 1886 from cancer.We presume he was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Quincy.
