MR. MICHAEL KILLOURY, KILHIMIL
The death took place on November 15th of Mr. Michael Killoury at his residence, Clonakilla, Kilhimil.The deceased was a Captain in the Old I.R.A., C Company, West Clare Brigade, and later held the rank of Commandant of the Anti-Treaty Forces in West Clare.His failing health for many years was due to his activities in the War of Independence, and his death at a comparatively early age is regretted.A very large funeral testified to the esteem sympathy felt for his widow and young family.
Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated on the morning of the 17th by Re. Fr. Hilary, O.F.M. (brother of deceased), assisted by Rev. P. O'Connor, C.C., Kilmihil, deacon, and Very Rev. P. O'Reilly, P.P., Clondegad, sub-deacon.Very Rev. P. Gaynor, P.P. Kilhimil, was master of ceremonies.In the choir were Very Rev. Fr. Colga, O.F.M., guardian, The Friary, Ennis; Rev. Fr. Senan, O.F.M., do, and Rev. Fr. Valerian, O.F.M., do.
Rev. Fr. Hilary, O.F.M. officiated at the grave side.The remains were interred with military honors from the West Clare Brigade, Old I.R.A., and Kilhimil Coy, L.D.F. under Dist. Leader Sean Flanagan.Mr. McMahon, District Adjutant, Kilrush, addressed the sympathizers after the obsequies.
