KILOWRY, DONAL, LIEUT. (KILLOURY)
LIEUT. DONAL KILOWRY, VOLUNTEER FORCE
Military honours were accorded at the funeral of Lieut. Kilowry, whose internment took place in the family burial ground at Kilhimil on 19th July. The deceased who was an Officer of the 2nd Battalion, Regiment of Thomond, was the youngest son of Michael and Mary Kilowry, of Kilhimil, and brother of V. Rev. Father Hilary, O.F.M., Limerick. He was educated at St. Joseph's Monastery, Ennistymon, St. Joseph's Academy, Bournemouth, and Presentation College, Cork.He abandoned his medical studies to pursue his life's ambition, a military life.
A very large and representative attendance paid a last tribute at the grave side and floral wreaths and many messages of sympathy were received by the relatives. The final prayers were recited by Very Re. Father Hilary O.F.M. (brother of deceased), while Lieut, C. Irving, Corraclare, ably conducted the military ceremonial.
Chief mourners - Michael and Mary Kilowry (parents), Very Re. Father Hilary, O.F.M., Michael and Jack (brothers); Mrs. O'Dea, Mrs. Cleary, Dilly and Aggie (sisters), Mrs. Michael Kilowry (sister-in-law), S. O'Dea and J. Cleary (brother-in-laws).

The deceased Officer was popular not only throughout the length and breadth of West Clare but also among his military associates of every rank.True to the traditions of a highly gifted and patriotic family, Dan (as we all knew him) was one of the best and most sincere Irishmen the present generation could produce.Too young to have participated in the War of Independence - he was only in his mid-twenties - his outlook was intensely National, his ideals of TONE and EMMET; his ambitions of PEARSE, CLARK and MCDERMOTT.His loss will be keenly felt, not only by his grief stricken relatives, but also by his subordinate Non-Commissioned Officers and men, by whom he was proudly acknowledged as a leader second to none.A standard bearer of the New Ireland has passed to his reward, a youth respected for his honesty, esteemed for his generosity and justice and beloved of all for his gaiety and wit.
