| Family names for this homepage include Ashmore, Elder, Kimbrell, Parsons, Sanderson, Scott. The main body of research so far concerns the Ashmores. Samuel Ashmore came from County Down around 1820, and settled in Putnam, Muskingam, OH. He was a tailor who, at one time, had as many as 13 people living in his household. His first wife was Nancy McNemar (or McNamara), married in 1821, the same year Samuel applied for naturalization. Samuel and Nancy had a son, William, who became a Baptist missionary to Japan, Siam, and China. William's son, William, Jr., also went to China as a missionary. They built a mission and school at Swatow, China, which was named after my ggg-grandfather at his death. My grandmother, Edith Ashmore, was born there, as was her brother Frank. I've spent quite a bit of time surfing the internet (I'm a confirmed junky!)and have found some pages I find of great use and amusement. I'll try to include some of them here, since I always like to revisit helpful sites occasionally. There's so much information, and so little time! |
