Son-in-law was William Brownlow McClellan, early Texas Newspaperman for the La Grange INTELLIGENCER. Both he and McClellan were not fans of Sam Houston. They did not like the Indian policy of 1844, preferring Mirabeau Lamar's plan. They also did not like the fact that Houston abandoned Austin in 1842, leaving it and La Grange wide open to Indian attacks.

Born in North Carolina, moved in 1837 to Sumter Co., Alabama. In 1839, moved to Fayette Co., Texas, first outside LaGrange and later in Rutersville. Served as an administrator for several estates. Justice of the Peace in 1850.

  Notes for Elizabeth Lawson Hart:
Elizabeth Hart refused to move from North Carolina to Texas until there was a college for her children to attend. One of her sons drowned as the family tried to cross the Red River.
They came on from there to Fayette, County, in 1839.

Finally, a college at Rutersville, Texas (4 miles from LaGrange), was chartered by Mirabeau Lamar for the Republic in 1840. This was the first chartered college in the Republic to be put into operation.

The town had several streets named for Patrons, including Moore Street. While non-denominational, all the founders were Methodists.

The school moved to Chapel Hill and later moved again to Georgetown in 1872 as part of Southwestern University.
