OHN KING:
John King was listed in the 1820 federal census for Monongalia County Virginia. When John purchased land in Tyler county in 1824 he was listed on the deed as being from Monongalia county. The land that John King purchased was in Tyler (now Wetzel) county on Fishing Creek, in the King Bend, near Porters Falls. He and Elizabeth lived there until their death in 1859.

The 1850 census listed John (59) his wife Elizabeth (61), Margaret (24), Jeremiah (21), and Elizabeth (19). John listed his place of birth as Maryland. His wife Elizabeth listed Kentucky as her place of birth.

The last will and testament of John King was recorded in Wetzel County Court on September 6, 1859. In his last will and testament John King mentions his children Thomas P., James E., John S., Margaret, Sarah Ann, Jeremiah, and Elizabeth. Also mentioned were the three children of James E. King namely Mary E., Price S., and Rachel R. King. Elman F. King, the son of Thomas P. King was also mentioned in the will.

I John King of the County of Wetzel and State of Virginia being sick and weak in body but being of sound mind and disposing memory for which I thank God and being thus I set about to dispose of all such Worldly estate as is ___ pleased God to bless me with While being in my ___ mind I do hereby make my last will and testament and I give and I bequeath in manner and form following, that is to say: First I desire that Jeremiah King , my son, is to have the home place including all my lands except two tracts namely one of fifty acres lying on Monyes Run known as the ______ tract and the other tract of one hundred and twenty two acres and adjoining lands of James Cochran and William Milburn. And I give and bequeath the said home place to the said Jeremiah King and his heirs and assigns forever. And the two ____ _____ ____ named the ______ tract of said _____ one hundred and twenty two acre tract is to be sold after my decease and the proceed is thereof to be applied to the use of Sarah Ann Milburn and Elizabeth Snider two of my daughters and three children of James E. King deceased namely Mary E. King, Price S. King, and Rachel R. King. Which said three children of James E. king by making their deed to their interest in the above named fifty acre tract of land is to have Eighty dollars each when they become of lawful age, and remainder of the proceeds of the fifty acre tract and the one hundred and twenty two acre tract to be divided equally between my two above named daughters Sarah Ann and Elizabeth; or Jeremiah King my son to pay my said two daughters two hundred and fifty dollars each and he keep said two tracts of land and James E. King’s three children eighty dollars each when they become of lawful age and make their deed to him for their interest in said fifty acre tract on Monyes Run and the said Jeremiah King is to pay Margaret E. King my daughter the sum of three hundred dollars and he is to have all my farming utensils my wagon and harness and my ___ mare and young horse, my clock and two pare of bedsteads. All the livestock on the place except the cattle which is to be divided between the said Jeremiah King and Margaret E. King to suit themselves and if Elman F. King stays with Jeremiah King till he is twenty one years of age he is to be sent to school in the winter season whenever he can have an opportunity. And when he becomes of that age he is to be furnished by Jeremiah King a good young horse saddle and bridle with good and decent wearing appeal. And to pay to my son Thomas P. King fifty dollars at some convenient time in the settling of my estate and also the said Jeremiah King is to pay to John S. King five dollars and the said Margaret E. King is to have my young mare and two pare of bedsteads. The above named property is given and bequeathed to the aforesaid persons to their heirs and assigns forever. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint Jeremiah King executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other former wills or testaments by me heretofore made in witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this nineteenth day of June 1859
