Joseph " Joe " L. Kinville
One of the founders and coaches of Ilion Pop Warner Football

ILION - WOODGATE -- Joseph " Joe " L. Kinville, 66, of Rt. 28, Woodgate, passed away Saturday, June 5, 1999, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, with his family at his side.
Joe was born Oct. 16, 1932, in Ilion, son of Joseph and Genevieve Rice Kinville. He attended Ilion schools and was a graduate of Ilion High School. Joe was a proud veteran, serving his country with the U.S. Navy from 1952 - 1956, at one time serving aboard the USS Intrepid. Joe was first married to Ruth Fay, the mother of his children, and later married Patricia " Pat " Young Aug. 21, 1981, in Ilion. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 34 years, retiring in 1990 as a foreman in the gas department in Utica and Herkimer. From the time of Joe's retirement until recently, he worked part time at the NI-Mo auctions in Rome. Joe was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of the Niagara Mohawk 25 Year Club and Gas Lighters. He was a former elected trustee for the village of Ilion ( 1972 - 1976 ), one of the founders and coaches with the Ilion Pop Warner Football League, a member of the Old Forge American Legion Post 893, a life member and past adjutant of Old Forge VFW Post 9314, charter member and past commander of the Ilion Navy Club, past president of the Woodgate Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Trackside Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and a member of the White Otter Fish and Game Club. He used to enjoy hunting and fishing and, at one time, loved to play softball and basketball. He loved to putt around White Lake with family and friends in his party barge and truly loved the North Country. The past few years Joe and Pat have enjoyed spending winters at their home in Arizona.
Survivors including his wife, Pat; five daughters and sons - in - law, Susan and Scott Krenichyn of Herkimer, Michelle and George Koury of New Hartford, Lori and Terry Tucker of Mohawk, Lynne and Rodney Von Packal of Clinton, Jolene and John Day of Ilion; one son and daughter - in - law, Jeffrey and Patricia Kinville of Ilion; two stepsons, Michael Young of NYC, and Donald Young and his wife Lynette of Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; one brother and sister - in - law, Donald and Ruth Kinville of Keene, N.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard, in 1983.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and 1:45 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where Father Joseph Benintende, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow Mass in White Lake Cemetery with full military honors at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Friends and relatives are invited to visitation Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Applegate and Day Funeral Home, Ilion.
Joe's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kussin and the staff at Strong Memorial Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Joe during his illness.
Donations may be made to the Ilion Ambulance Fund. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
