Mrs. Jane Cone Wilson was the second daughter of the Rev. Richard Hugg King. She was born Nov. 30, 1791, in the old family mansion, Iredell county, N. C. She was a lady of culture and refinement. She had improved the advantages derived from the parental instruction and company of her learned father and the use of his large and well selected library. — — With these opportunities for mental discipline, she became exceedingly intellectual and accomplished. She was well qualified to figure in domestic and social life, and was from her infancy greatly admired and esteemed in all the circles of society.
Coming with her father's family, on their removal to Knox county, Tenn., in 1815, she soon became a universal favorite with communities with which she mingled.Onthe second day of December,1817, she was married toIgnatius Wilson, a merchant of Maryville, Tenn., who died there June 22, 1822, leaving two sons and a daughter to the care and culture of the widowed mother.She discharged these important functions with signal fidelity and success, and stamped the excellent traits of her own character upon her fatherless children. One of the sons died in his ninth year.The other is now an elder in the Presbyterian church at Rockford, and is in every way worthy of his excellent mother and his ancestry.The daughter became the wife of John M. Coffin, son of Rev. Charles Coffin, D. D., formerly of Knoxville, Tenn.Mrs. Wilson continued to reside in Maryville until 1864, when she went to live with her son-in-law,J.M.Coffin,inanadjoiningneighborhood.In
1865, the son-in-law removed toCilescounty,Tenn.,and in 1868 removed againtoUnionCity,Tenn.Mrs.Wilsonaccompanied him in all these removals.An erysipelatous infection of one of her ankles had for several years troubled her. The enervating influence of old age, and of the climate aggravated herothersuffering,andshefelltranquillytosleepAugust 23, 1873, in the 82nd year of her age.She was emphatically a mother in Israel-performed well her part in allthe relations
of life, and has gone to her rest in heaven.Requiescat in pace.
