Find Family
The Kingsburys that settled in Massachusetts in the early 1630s came from Boxford, Suffolk, England as part of the historic Winthrop Fleet. They brought with them a very rich heritage. A few have migrated to America after Henry Kingsbury of Ipswich and his uncle, Joseph Kingsbury of Dedham, but with rare exceptions we all trace our Kingsbury heritage to Suffolk County in England.

I started working on the Kingsbury family history in 1990 and the following reports are a portion of that research. It is my goal to publish this research by 2006 as a guide to those that are sure to follow. Currently I am concentrating on our English ancestry and have made some very interesting discoveries. In 2001 and again in 2003 I made research trips to England which included research in Boxford in Suffolk, Kingsbury in Warwickshire, and Bracebridge in Lincolnshire. In the village of Kingsbury some very significant discoveries were made and some of the results are included in the reports on this page. At this time it seems rather certain that our ancestors in the village of Kingsbury were in fact the Bracebridge family, which adds a whole new dimension to our history. If you would like to receive a CD disk with the summary of the trips and some great photos of England, please contact me.

Our current project is to conduct a genealogical DNA testing chart to prove the Bracebridge-Kingsbury link, and to determine the exact DNA makeup of the various branches of the Kingsbury family. If you think you might be interested in participation I invite you to contact me.

This research is a joint effort and if you find any errors or omissions in these reports I would be very grateful if you would contact me directly and let me know. If you find your ancestor here and would like additional information also let me know. If I have it I will be happy to share.

Family Photos

  • CHURCH IN WINTER - Boxford, Suffolk, England (376 KB)
An original pastel drawing of Saint Mary's Church in Boxford, Suffolk by Pam Balls, a resident of Boxford
  • Floyd and "Bird" Kingsbury (217 KB)
This is a great photograph of my parents taken a short time before their death. Fortunately I gained my interest in genealogy before my father died and we had some happy times together visiting old haunts and I enjoyed listening to the stories.
  • Kingsbury Hall - an original Pen & Ink Drawing (314 KB)
Copy of an original Pen and Ink Drawing of kingsbury Hall from the Tame River done by Carole Haines in 1993.
  • Wedding for Billy S. Smith & Tracey M. Odom (78 KB)
The family tree grows with the marriage of my Step-son, BJ Smith to the beautiful Tracey Odom on June 1, 1996.
  • Charles F. and Carolyn "Callie" Fite Girtman (1350 KB)
This is a great old photo of some very special people, the parents of my wife. Charles died before I could meet him, but Callie has a special place with everyone.
  • Ken & Lyn Kingsbury 1999 (156 KB)
    Ken & Lyn Kingsbury 1999
  • Antique Fireplace for Ken & Lyn Kingsbury (103 KB)
We were very fortunate in finding this great old fire place mantle. After a lot of work refinishing it and laying a marble background for it, this old fireplace really becomes the focal point of our living room.
  • A Kingsbury Coat of Arms (156 KB)
This is one of many family crests for the Kingsbury family. Because of the style it incorporates a wider range.
  • KINGSBURY HALL PHOTO from May, 2001 trip (258 KB)
The ancient fortified wall around the Kingsbury Hall with the manor in the background. In the vally directly behind Kingsbury Hall is the Tame River valley.
  • Gartman Coat of Arms (159 KB)
This example of the Gartman Coat of Arms is interesting, but by no means is meant to represent the Gartman/Girtman family today. It comes from Winfredus de Jardine of Scotland in the 12th century and represents the branch of the family that emigrated to Scotland and England during the Norman Invasion of 1066
  • Christmas 2001 at the Ken & Lyn Kingsbury Home (105 KB)
Genealogy is family, which makes this Christmas photo all the more significant. From left to right are BJ with Camren (age 1)on his lap, Tracey with Branden (age 3) on her lap), Lyn and Ken. The mantle this year was decorated with Lyn's Santa collection.
  • Fite Coat of Arms (1101 KB)
Original spelling of the family name was Vogt and it is often seen this way in early writings.
  • The Joseph Kingsbury Homestead in Dedham, MA (241 KB)
This is an old photograph of the Joseph Kingsbury farm in the early 19th century. It is doubtful that these are any of the original sutructures, but the farm did remain in the family for a very long time.
  • THE OTHER VICE - Bass fishing on Toledo Bend Lake (95 KB)
Just to show that even genealogists can have more than one vice, this photo shows why I loved my bass fishing days so much.
  • KINGSBURY-LORD HOUSE Ipswich, MA (150 KB)
The Plaque on the front of the house reads "Kingsbury-Lord House 1660" and was placed there by the Ipswich Historical Society. This picture was taken in 1996. It is a beautiful structure and the current owners have been very meticulous in their restorations. It is doubtful that any of the current building is part of the original Henry Kingsbury homestead, but the ancient stonework of the original foundation can still be seen.
  • Our Grand Children - Branden and Camren April 2002 (848 KB)
They are growing so fast and the proud grand parents are doing their best to enjoy every moment. In this picture Branden is almost age 4 and Camren in age 1 1/2.
  • Benjamin Girtman Plantation in Hazelhurst, GA (569 KB)
This photo was taken in 1999 and the old plantation is still in great condition. At the time a descendant of Ben Girtman was in the process of making repairs and intended to move his family into the home. Several descendants still remain in the area and manage the estate.
