| This is the humble beginnings of my quest to document my family tree. I am researching the King/Bennett families who settled in Texas and New Mexico and the Bennett(not related to the other ones)/Bilberry families who settled in Texas and New Mexico in the late 1800's and early 1900's. My maternal grandmother, Lois Frances Bilberry Bennett was a true family historian. She loved to write and loved family. She kept journals filled with stories of her childhood and wrote of stories passed from earlier generations. Luckily my mother has passed all of these things to me. I am now the keeper of the family history. Even though I never had children, I hope that my brother's children and other family members' children will want to know this history and keep it for their future generations. I have discovered alot of relatives I did not know I have. I have met alot of interesting people who are also searching for their family ties. It is a very interesting adventure, retracing the paths of our relatives. To find others - who have similar ties, similar stories and similar memories is such a joy. To discover information about others in the family, their triumphs, their sorrows, their history - and to put it all together - is a very satisfying experience. Peacemaker (ca. 1000 A.D.), founder of the Iroquois Confederacy, said: "Think not forever of yourselves, O Chiefs, nor of your own generation. Think of continuing generations of our families, think of our grandchildren and of those yet unborn, whose faces are coming from beneath the ground." |
